"The Kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent are taking it by force." --Matthew 11:12

In today's Gospel, Jesus claims John the Baptist as his herald. He is new Elijah declaring the Word of the Lord in our midst.

John has built of the traditions of his ancestors and is the on the precipice of the time of fulfillment.

But as Jesus reminds us, the Kingdom of Heaven might be in our midst, but it's still a fragile state. There are enemies of the kingdom heaven who are attempting from us by force.

"The devil," Pope Francis says, "rips us off every time." Are there spirits within us that are trying to steal God's kingdom in our midst? Can we take time this Advent to appropriately name the areas of our life where we haven't let God in?
