Today Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good distributed a pledge to its members to stand in solidarity with the American bishops who will gather on Tuesday, April 1st, in Nogales, Arizona at the U.S.-Mexico border and celebrate Mass on behalf of the close to 6,000 migrants who have died in the U.S. desert since 1998.
We believe in the purpose of the trip, which is to highlight the human suffering caused by a broken immigration system, an aspect of the national immigration debate which is often ignored.
As part of this pledge, CACG members will agree to take action in one of the following ways on April 1:
Go to Daily Mass and pray to spiritually connect yourself in solidarity with the bishops. Resources for prayer can be found at the Archdiocese of Chicago Immigrant Affairs Office website.
ADVOCATE FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM
Send an electronic postcard to your member of Congress. Or use this toll free number: 1-855-589-5698. Ask them to "Support a path to citizenship and oppose the SAFE Act."
FAST IN SOLIDARITY
Fast in solidarity with migrants and immigrants. Fasting turns our attention away from our own needs and allows us to open our hearts to the suffering of others.
