Catholics in Alliance Condemns Override Failure

Group Urges Congress to Find Common Ground to Aid America’s Children

Washington, DC—Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good released a statement today criticizing the failure of the House of Representatives to override President Bush’s veto of SCHIP legislation and calling on the President and Congress to move beyond partisan politics to quickly provide health care insurance for low-income children.

“It is truly sad that this great nation cannot ensure basic health care coverage to its weakest and most vulnerable citizens,” said Alexia Kelley, Executive Director of Catholics in Alliance. “Ensuring that sick children receive adequate health care is a profound moral issue and essential to the common good. Congress and the President must end their partisan bickering and quickly pass legislation that reauthorizes SCHIP and gives health care coverage to uninsured low-income children.”

Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good (www.catholicsinalliance.org) is a non-partisan non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the fullness of the Catholic social tradition in the public square. Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good works to promote the necessary conditions for a culture of life - a culture that reverences the dignity of the human person over greed, materialism, and the politics of division.
