Welcome to the Common Good Blog!

This represents our first step into an exciting medium that has revolutionized communication and prodded the mainstream media to pay attention to the diverse, original and often eloquent voices of real people. Gutenberg’s printing press unleashed a literary revolution in the 15th century. Bloggers are now transforming how we think about and relate to an information age where 24-hour news cycles and instant analysis have redefined the political and media landscape.

For those of us committed to promoting common good values in the media and the public square, we recognize the importance of providing an open forum where issues, ideas and debates central to the role of faith in public life can be explored as part of a civil dialogue. Our rich Catholic social tradition has always valued the need for robust discourse. In the days ahead you will find topical analysis of what the media is reporting about faith and politics, commentaries from theologians, op-eds from social justice leaders, and briefings from our media and field staff.

In this election year, the voices of Catholics will be central to making sure our leaders address the moral dimensions of war, poverty, health care, immigration and the essential conditions for a true culture of life. We hope this blog is part of an ongoing conversation that provokes, inspires and enlightens.

We welcome your ideas and contributions.
