The Common Good Blog Provides a Forum for Ideas on Faith in Public Life

Washington, DC- Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good announced today the launch of their new website, www.catholicsinalliance.org. The redesigned website is an essential part of the Alliance's mission to promote awareness of the Catholic social tradition in the American public square and media. The site includes a number of new features as well as improvements in navigation, uniformity and appearance.

Among the website features are The Common Good Blog which includes commentary by leading theologians and social justice advocates; a News Center for the media with up-to-date information on Catholic social justice issues and activities; Toolkits for people wanting to support the common good where they live; a Books section with reviews, interviews and profiles of authors; Backgrounders on issues essential to Catholic Social Teaching such as immigration, health care, and economic justice, and a calendar of upcoming important events and activities.

Popular features that carry over from the previous site include The Catholic Media Report, a daily summary of the best national and local news on the intersection of faith and public life and The Common Good E-Newsletter, a monthly electronic newsletter that highlights the Alliance and participating organizations' activities. Visitors can subscribe to both services online, and can provide feedback on the site through the contact Us page.

Some of the key content pages are available in Spanish including the pages on Catholic Social Teaching and Programs. More pages will be made available in Spanish as the site expands and adds more features.

"We are very excited about all the possibilities this new site offers. We are especially proud of The Common Good Blog that provides an open forum where issues, ideas and debates central to the role of faith in public life can be explored as part of a civil dialogue," said Alexia Kelley, executive director of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. "In this election year, the voices of Catholics will be central to making sure our leaders address the broad moral dimensions of war, poverty, health care, immigration and the essential conditions for building an authentic culture of life. We hope this blog is part of an ongoing conversation that provokes, inspires and enlightens."

Current postings on the blog include Fr. Thomas Reese, S.J., senior fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University, who offers analysis of the Catholic vote in New Hampshire, and a personal reflection on immigration by Fr. Fred Thelen, pastor of Cristo Rey Church in Lansing, MI.

Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good promotes awareness of Catholic social teaching and its core values of justice, dignity and the common good to Catholics, the media and Americans of all faiths.
