Catholic Mass for Peace in Iraq

St. Aloysius Church, Eye and North Capital Streets, NW at noon, sponsored by Pax Christi and others. Auxiliary Bishop Martin Holley will be the celebrant.

Panel. Following the mass will be a panel including:

Monsignor Ray East: Monsignor East is Executive Director of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. and pastor of St. Therese of Avila parish

Sister Anne Curtis, RSM , Sister Anne just returned from a visit (January 11-20) to Iraqi refugees in Syria and Lebanon with a delegation of women religious, sponsored by Catholic Relief Services. Sister Anne is on the leadership team of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas

Joshua Casteel of the Catholic Peace Fellowship, was a high school football player and valedictorian, West Point graduate and interrogator at Abu Grahib. This experience led him to apply for, and receive, Conscientious Objector Status and convert to Catholicism. Josh spent last March with other Catholic Peace Fellowship members in Rome, talking with Papal representatives about ways to stop this war.

Interfaith Service, Upper Senate Park: 2:30 pm – After each noon time service, those who can make it will process from their different venues around downtown DC to the Mall for an Interfaith Prayer Service, including Jewish, Islamic and other faith traditions. Music by Si Kahn.

Vigil. After talks and interfaith liturgy, some people who feel led, may participate in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience, to demonstrate their opposition to the continuation of this unjust war.
