Statement on the Freedom of Choice Act
Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good promotes a consistent ethic of life that honors the sacred dignity of the human person, born and unborn. We believe the right to life is foundational in any just society and work to promote bipartisan, common-ground solutions to preventing the tragedy of abortion. Therefore, we oppose the Freedom of Choice Act, legislation that would undermine reasonable restrictions on abortion such as waiting periods and parental notification. FOCA has “languished in Congress for 20 years,” according to a Catholic News Service analysis, and is unlikely to become law. However, the Alliance will strongly oppose this legislation if it comes up for a vote.
