We thank you for your invitation to Pope Francis to address both Houses of Congress during his possible visit to the United States in 2015. But let's give him a gift upon his visit: comprehensive immigration reform.
For years, Catholics across this country have been standing up for comprehensive and humane immigration reform.
We've worked with members of both parties to advance this crucial issue, because immigrants and aspiring immigrants have a sacred place in our faith tradition. In fact, we remember that Jesus Christ himself was an immigrant.
Last year, the Senate passed a humane immigration reform bill with an earned pathway to citizenship. But now we need the House to do the same.
Please uphold our faith's social teaching and defend the rights and dignity of aspiring American immigrants.
