It is not very often that the United States Conference of Catholics Bishops assembles three of their heaviest hitters for a conference call. But, the USCCB’s President, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the chairman of their Committee on Migration, Archbishop Jose Gomez, and the USCCB Communications committee chair, Bishop John Wester, all joined a call with the media last week. Their message: They are backing comprehensive immigration reform to the hilt, the praised the Senate’s Gang of 8 for bravely forging a compromise, and they still want to see the bill improved to make it more humane. On this issue, we at CACG stand four-square with the bishops and we urge our members to do so as well. We publish the text of that conference call and encourage you to share it with your priests, your fellow parishioners, and your neighbors.
