Donald Trump's call today to bar Muslims from entering the United States is an act of pure religious bigotry that flies in the face of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's stunning that on the eve of Pope Francis's Jubilee Year of Mercy, Donald Trump would decide to punish Muslim refugee families for the sins of ISIS.
As we come upon Christmas, Donald Trump is the modern-day Bethlehem hotel owner, saying to refugee families there is "no room at the inn."
That's not right, and Christians won't accept it.
The Catholic Church know far too well the dangers of religious bigotry, and we will work to ensure Muslim refugees are welcomed in the United States, because as Pope Francis recently reminded us, they are our brothers and sisters.
